Improving outcomes
Bunjum Aboriginal Corporation applied to the NSW Government and was successful under their First Steps Aboriginal Childrens’ Early Childhood Education Strategy for a Bundjalung specific Ninganah No More Aboriginal Language program with the NSW Department of Education.
The Ninganah No More (NNM) Aboriginal language program has been established to increase the level of Aboriginal languages being taught in early childhood services in NSW.
The strategy supports our vision and places a strong emphasis on Aboriginal family and community engagement, child-centred services and the promotion of Aboriginal culture and identity in early childhood settings.
Bunjum’s program is funded for 2 years and in its last year of funding. We employ an Early Years Educator and Aboriginal Language Speaker for 12 hours per week to codesign, with the Centre Director, a Bundjalung Language program for our Centre, based around the Early Years Learning framework and local embedded Culture.
Our Bundjalung Language program focuses on learning through play to ensure the jarjums success and enjoyment and supports the re-voicing of our Bundjalung Language. They are proud of their Culture and Identity and showcase this at Community events.
